Jelly Jar Zin and Cedar Knoll Cab are New Favorites at Carpe Vino
Jelly Jar is open for tasting, so stop by and try it. Cost is $24 per bottle, but by the case it goes down to $20. . .an awesome value.
Another incredible wine value we’ve just brought into Carpe Vino is the 2004 Cedar Knoll Cabernet Sauvignon from Palmaz Vineyards (see the story below for details about a recent visit Drew and I made to one of Napa’s crowning jewels).
Palmaz is owned by Julio and Amalia Palmaz who have invested selflessly to restore the former Cedar Knoll Winery located just beyond the city of Napa. While winemaker Mia Kline is producing world-class cabs in the $100 price range for Palmaz, the Cedar Knolls label offers wines more affordable for the rest of us. It is produced from estate juice that is outstanding yet falls short of the standard Kline demands for the signature cabs.
I’ve been sipping on this stuff for the last couple of weeks, and I’m very impressed with the fact that the Cedar Knolls displays classic cab attributes—rich fruit flavor, distinguished tannins and elegance in the glass—yet it is priced at just $37.50 per bottle (and it’s open every day at our wine bar). The best part is, however, the cost goes down to $30 a bottle when you purchase a solid case (no mixing or matching, sorry). You save $90 per case.
We also have the 2002 Palmaz Cabernet Sauvignon in the shop for $100 per bottle. The 2002 Gaston Vineyard Cab is available only in the restaurant for $125 per bottle. Both are perfect for a special occasion!
