April in California is like a climatic intermezzo, a refreshing sorbet for the seasons as winter segues directly into summer, with bud break in the vineyards heralding a much anticipated renewal paired perfectly with an oh-so-brief transient green covering hillsides that will soon flash monochrome brown before our eyes.
Finally, it is time for planting a garden, opening day at Wrigley Field and hiking Stagecoach in the cool of the evening before darkness closes in. It’s okay to wear short sleeves and white fabrics; and because of moderating temperatures as the edges of the seasons bleed together, it makes no difference if you drink Pinot Grigio or Pinot Noir.
And it’s a time for Carpe Vino Wine Club members to rejoice. This month we’ve unlocked the best of both worlds for members who prefer white or will only sip red. We hope you enjoy this month’s treasures and we invite you to make it a date night when you pick up your shipment. . .come for the wine, stay for Chef Alexander’s fabulous new menu. - Gary Moffat
