It’s hard to believe, but we opened Carpe Vino in mid-August, 2002. We’ve been slugging away ever since, trying to keep ahead of the taxman, et. al. From time-to-time, Drew and I take turns hitting the wall, because as in any business, you just run down occasionally.
Doing my Vintage Highway tours in my Airstream has been invigorating for me. It is an opportunity to go out and meet our partners in wine; a great chance to find cool stuff that isn’t in wide distribution. Based on my last trip to Lake County, for example, I found a pant load (to quote the E*Trade spokesbaby) of great wines, particularly the 2006 Derenoncourt Cab. Then, based on my new contacts we set up a tasting (for July 15, which is tomorrow night as I write this); and we scheduled a winemaker dinner with Gregory Graham Winery for July 29th. That’s productivity!
And, I have to say I’m more pumped about our business and our prospects than I have been in a long time. Screw the Recession. . .game on! - Gary Moffat
