If you want an excellent quality chardonnay that doesn’t taste like it’s been run through a bag of buttered popcorn and wood chips, then we have THE ONE for you!  It’s the 2014 Metallico (by Morgan Winery) Chardonnay from Monterey.  True to its metallic moniker, the Metallico was aged five months in stainless steel and saw no malolactic fermentation that would mask its beautiful fruit expression.  Normal winery retail is $22/bottle but we scored a deal for you today dropping this baby to $15.95/bottle on six +!

As always, this wine is PURE INTENSE fruit sourced from Santa Lucia Highlands, Arroyo Seco, and Monterey.  It has BRIGHT acidity that offers flavors that span the gamut from HONEYDEW to TROPICAL FRUIT to CITRUS.  Even though the weather outside is not conducive to drinking this poolside, it is perfect for after work or evoking images of Caribbean making the winter just a tad more tolerable.  Pair this with a nice sautéed petrale sole or perhaps some fresh Dungeness crab and you are GOLDEN!

This is one of the big reasons why there are 1,200 Carpe Vino Wine Club members:  Our signature wine sale and tasting–Wine Thing–is this Saturday, January 28th from noon until 3 p.m.  We’ll be opening 75+ wines in all styles, varieties and price ranges for the exclusive enjoyment of our beloved Wine Clubbers.

And the best part is, there is no charge for entry.

To sweeten the day, we’ll pile on our best wine pricing of the entire year.  Discounts start at 5% on any purchase, with another 1% added for each additional purchase, maxing out at 24% when you buy 24 bottles (two cases) mix & match.  Discounts are not limited to wines being tasted; just about everything in the store qualifies except limited “net” wines and those that are already heavily discounted, six-pack deals.  However, all wines purchased build to the 24% discount.

Many of you are already familiar with this tasty drill because we’ve reprised it annually since 2003.  We showcase our very best brokers and distributors, so expect some “surprise” wines and maybe even some sleepers.

“Citrus Celebration” Prix-Fixe Starts Tuesday

Carpe Vino’s 2017 prix-fixe season launches tomorrow January 24 with “Citrus Celebration,” a virtual walk through the citrus orchards of Placer County that continues through February 4.  Chef Alexander has tapped into relationships throughout the region as well as sourcing fruit from his Four Tines Farm that he operates with his wife and our pastry chef, Courtney McDonald.

Dinner with John Lescroart Sold Out Instantly

One of the hottest tickets in the Sacramento region is our “Dinner with John Lescroart,” set for this Sunday at 6:15 in the Friendly Confines.  As is our promise with special events, we offered reservations to Wine Club members first.  Four days later we opened it to everyone on our list, and the event, which we capped at 65 people, sold out by noon.  We have nearly 40 people on the waiting list.

Our thanks to everyone who responded so quickly. . .and we’re very sorry we’re not able to serve everyone who expressed an interest in joining us.  The good news is we have other celebrity-driven events in planning right now, so there will be more opportunities to meet some very cool people!

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeey Batter, batter, batter, sssssssswing batter!  He can’t hit, he can’t hit, he can hit, ssssssssssswing batter!  Sorry Ferris Bueller fans, he CAN hit!  I’m talking about Winemaker Blake Kuhn with his 2013 Clayhouse Petit Verdot from Red Cedar Vineyard in Paso Robles.  He not only hit it, but he KNOCKED it out of the park!  FREAKISHLY INSANE GORGEOUS dark inky hues, BUNDLES of LUSCIOUS black fruits, and FULL-BODIED flavors that will have you wondering if anyone got the license plate number of that bus!  Even more cool is that rarely do you see petit verdot as a stand-alone varietal.  Typically, you see it as the “secret sauce” to crank up Bordeaux blends but this baby is almost all PV.  Super small in production, only 62 cases, this is a true DIAMOND-IN-THE-ROUGH!  When we caught wind that only 29 cases were left at the winery we knew we had to snag it all.  Now, we are down to less than EIGHT cases and then it’s gone for good!  We slashed the winery retail by over 37% making it a SURE-FIRE can’t miss for a JUICY, DRINK, and LOVE it right now PALATE-PLEASER!!!

January Wine Club Wines Ready Next Week

compissues.114412We want you to know that we’ve been dealing with a significant software issue related to processing credit cards that has delayed availability of January Wine Club selections.  We’re confident, however, that we’ll be able to have wines ready to go early next week.

“Software issues” are frequently cited as the culprit in customer service breakdowns, and in this case, it is all too true.  Our bank’s merchant credit card processor let us know abruptly that it would no longer support the module of our Point of Sale system (for inventory control, customer records and cash drawer) that automated our monthly Wine Club credit card transactions.  We switched banks, but we still have not been able to solve the software failure.

So, for what we intend will be a brief interim period,  it will be necessary for us to run credit card transactions manually until we can purchase and install standalone Wine Club software.  With roughly 650 transactions each month, we’re faced with  a time-consuming dilemma.

This is a maddening, frustrating problem that clearly undermines our customer service objectives. Drew and I want you to know that we are very sorry for the delays and any inconvenience that may result.

We really want to get you your wine.  Wine Club members are our most important customers, and we pledge to get back on schedule just as soon as humanly (and computerly) possible.

We genuinely appreciate your patience.
