Carpe Vino Nails Sixth OpenTable “Diners’ Choice” Award

OpenTable.091501Last month, Carpe Vino was the only Sacramento-area restaurant to make Open Table’s prestigious “Fit-for-Foodies” Diners’ Choice Top 100 award for 2013.  This month, the restaurant was named to the Diners’ Choice Top 100 list for “Restaurants with the Most Notable Wine Lists.”  This makes the sixth Top 100 award Carpe Vino has received over the past three years from OpenTable, the default reservations service for fine-dining restaurants across the nation.

“This is the third year in a row we have been named to OpenTable’s list for best restaurant wine lists, so this is no fluke,” said Carpe Vino co-owner Gary Moffat.  “Our most important critics—the people who dine with us—continue to praise Chef Alexander’s remarkable menus, our value-driven wine list, an immensely talented service staff and our 19th century, historic venue in Old Town Auburn.”

Also making the list this year were notables including Yountville’s The French Laundry, Veritas in NYC, Wine Cask in Santa Barbara and Auerole in Las Vegas.  Twenty-one California restaurants were named to the list, including two others in the Sacramento area:  Enotria and Back Wine Bar & Bistro.

OpenTable Diners’ Choice lists are based on more than 5 million reviews from diners who have fulfilled their reservations.  The reviews are submitted over a full year, from October 2012 to September 2013 and are based on dining experiences at more than 15,000 restaurants in the OpenTable network.

Carpe Vino was also named to OpenTable’s  Top 100 Restaurant lists in 2011 and 2012; 2013 winners will be announced soon.  In August, the restaurant received its second Wine Spectator Restaurant Award for its wine list, one of 3,800 establishments to be recognized worldwide.

“In my mind, OpenTable recognition is set apart from other ‘best of’ lists because it can’t be influenced by mass email appeals,” Moffat said.  “It takes year-round blocking and tackling—excellence on every level—and we’ve delivered. . .in fact I’d venture we’re on a very short list of restaurants nationwide that have been named to six lists.”
