Complimentary Wine Club Member Tasting Returns

Calling all Wine Club Members, it’s time for Saturday’s Tasting!  For the last month, we’ve offered some pretty exclusive wines to taste that you typically don’t see open just anywhere.  This week, we are shifting gears, and offering wines that are geared toward the “daily drinker” style wines that are also fantastic. Saturday’s featured wines are some of the newest additions to CV, and two of the wines are inaugural releases that you won’t find anywhere but CV!  So, come on down between 12noon and 4pm to snag some great wine at great discounts. You all know the drill by now, so here is what we are pouring: (Please remember two person maximum per wine club membership)

2013 FARM Chardonnay (Napa Valley)

Farm.161718$24.95/bottle or $21/bottle on six +

Winery Notes:
The Chardonnay grapes all come from the sustaninably farmed, small lot vineyards in the Napa Valley.  The 2013 vintage is from several plots on the southern edge of Napa Valley in the Carneros appellation.  The wine is exposed to just enough oak to provide a backdrop of vanilla, without being overpowering, and then put through secondary fermentation to create silky smooth creaminess.

Jay’s Take:  “Created as a middle tier offering from the John Anthony Family wines, this chardonnay is brand new! John Anthony produces some of the finest wines in Napa Valley, and you get to be the first to try it!”

Matrix Zinfandel 2011 (Russian River Valley)

MT.092147$27.95/bottle or $19.99/bottle on six +

Winery Tasting Notes:
“Subtle aromas of blackberry, blueberry and oak mingle with baking spices. The smooth entry reveals luscious flavors as the wine glides across your palate and lingers. Brambly berries mix with a bit of plum, the perfect touch of black pepper and just a hint of bosc pear in the finish to create a lovely essence of flavors. Round and rich, this Zin offers an elegant sophistication not often found in the varietal. Try pairing with rack of lamb or moussaka.”

Jay’s Take:  “This zinfandel is made in the style that we all know and love from Russian River.  Great fruit with just a touch of Petite Sirah to add another layer of structure and finesse. Take my word for it, this Zin is the real deal!”

Kismet “Papa’s All Blacks” Red Wine (North Coast)

PapasAllBLack-152x362.12044124.99/bottle or $17.99/bottle on six +

“Wine Advocate” Tasting Notes:
“A field blend of assorted grapes that pays tribute to the growers who planted some of California?s most historic vineyard sites back in the late 1800s. Sweet floral notes meld into dark red fruit, asphalt, sweet spices and licorice as the 2011 opens in the glass. Juicy and seductive, this is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2021.”

Jay’s Take: “We first featured the 2011 Papa’s All-Blacks Red Blend as a wine club wine in July.  It turned out to be a truely stunning wine, both because of the taste and price and people kept coming back for more!”

Waterstone “Study in Blue” Red Wine 2008 (Napa Valley)

Waterstone_studyinblue-152x362.120946$29.95/bottle or $24.95/bottle on six +

Winery Tasting Notes:
“Well-established hillside vineyards are the foundation of this wine, giving the finished blend its intense inner core of fruit. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were sourced from hillsides of Oakville, Rutherford and Spring Mountain District. Merlot and the Syrah were drawn from Truchard Vineyards in northern Carneros. With its blue hues and pronounced blueberry aromas, this distinct blend (39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 25% Syrah) is a study in blue. Bordeaux varieties provide the framework, while Syrah transports the blend to a realm all its own. It’s simply, Kind of Blue.”

Jay’s Take:  “This is a really cool wine for the simple fact that it is so limited due to the 2008 vintage.  However, the quality was high, and that is evident in this wine.  Like Gary Gershwin said, “Study in Blue is a true ‘sleeper,’ a wine that you learn about through word of mouth, or more likely from your local wine guru.”
