Our News Release Promoting the Event:

If you are planning to pre-order John Lescroart’s latest thriller, Fatal, here’s yet another excellent opportunity to do so:

The New York Times best-selling author will host a prix-fixe dinner at Carpe Vino in Auburn on January 29 to celebrate the release of Fatal, and the cost of a copy is included in the price of the event (one book per couple or single participant).  A lifelong gourmet and wine enthusiast, Lescroart created the menu for “Fatal” in collaboration with Carpe Vino Executive Chef Eric Alexander.  The pair is also teaming up to select wine pairings for each of the four courses of the dinner (to be announced).

An acknowledged Francophile, Lescroart’s inspiration for this prix-fixe foray is the classic French bistro, so dishes are familiar, yet refined through Chef Alexander’s unique interpretation.  The risotto course is Lescroart’s personal creation, however, a preparation featuring duck confit and Amarena black cherries imported from Italy.

Fatal, which will be released on January 24, is Lescroart’s 27th book, this one, “. . .a riveting standalone novel about the unexpected, shattering, and lethal consequences of a one-night stand on a seemingly happily married couple,” according to pre-release publicity.  Set in the Bay Area, Fatal is “an explosive story of infidelity, danger, and moral ambiguity, John Lescroart’s latest thriller will excite and satisfy both his current and new fans.”

There is nothing “morally ambiguous” about “Fatal:  Dinner with John Lescroart.”  Here’s the menu (wines pairings will be announced soon):

Amuse Bouche:  Chicken Liver Mousse with Quince, Toast

First Course:  Ahi Tuna Tartare with Quail Egg, Pear, Pickled Mustard Seed, Crispy Sunchokes

Second Course:  Risotto á la Lescroart with Duck Confit Amarena Cherry, Grilled Radicchio

Third course:  Beef Cheek Bourguignon with Fingerling Potato, Cipollini Onion, Champignon, Smoked Bacon

Dessert:  Chocolate Profiteroles with Salted Caramel Ice Cream, Hazelnuts, Cacao Nib

A welcome reception with Mr. Lescroart starts at 6:15 p.m.; dinner will be served at 7.  Cost is $120 per person, inclusive of wine pairings and a copy of Fatal; tax and tip are extra.

Creator of the Dismas Hardy series, 18 of Mr. Lescroart’s novels have made the New York Times best-seller list.  He lives in Yolo County.
