FARM Wines Make an Encore for Saturday Tasting
If you missed last Saturday’s Wine Club Member tasting, then you are in luck! Last week we featured some of the newest arrivals to Carpe Vino, and they are all fantastic. With a wide variety of wines, there is a little something for everyone again this week. All have terrific discounts, and two of which, are inaugural releases from acclaimed winemaker John Anthony Truchard. So, drop by CV from 12noon to 4pm, and taste what all the excitement is about. (Please remember two person maximum per wine club membership)
FARM Chardonnay 2013 (Napa Valley)
$24.95/bottle or $21/bottle on six +
Winery Tasting Notes:
“The Chardonnay grapes all come from sustainably farmed, small lot vineyards in the Napa Valley. The 2013 vintage is from several plots on the southern edge of Napa Valley in the Carneros appellation. The wine is exposed to just enough oak to provide a backdrop of vanilla, without being over powering, and then put through secondary fermentation to create a silky smooth creaminess.”
Jay’s Take: “Created as a middle tier offering from the John Anthony Family wines, this chardonnay is brand new! John Anthony produces some of the finest wines in Napa Valley, and you got to try it!”
Matrix Zinfandel 2011 (Russian River Valley)
$27.95/bottle or $19.99/bottle on six +
Winery Tasting Notes:
“Subtle aromas of blackberry, blueberry and oak mingle with baking spices. The smooth entry reveals luscious flavors as the wine glides across your palate and lingers. Brambly berries mix with a bit of plum, the perfect touch of black pepper and just a hint of bosc pear in the finish to create a lovely essence of flavors. Round and rich, this Zin offers an elegant sophistication not often found in the varietal. Try pairing with rack of lamb or moussaka.”
Jay’s Take: “This zinfandel is made in the style that we all know and love from Russian River. Great fruit with just a touch of Petite Sirah to add another layer of structure and finesse. Take my word for it, this Zin is the real deal!”
2008 Waterstone “Study in Blue” Red Wine (Napa Valley)
$29.95/bottle or $24.95/bottle on six +
Winery Tasting Notes:
“Well-established hillside vineyards are the foundation of this wine, giving the finished blend its intense inner core of fruit. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were sourced from hillsides of Oakville, Rutherford and Spring Mountain District. Merlot and the Syrah were drawn from Truchard Vineyards in northern Carneros. With its blue hues and pronounced blueberry aromas, this distinct blend (39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 25% Syrah) is a study in blue. Bordeaux varieties provide the framework, while Syrah transports the blend to a realm all its own. It’s simply, Kind of Blue.”
Jay’s Take: “This is a really cool wine for the simple fact that it is so limited due to the 2008 vintage. However, the quality was high, and that is evident in this wine. Like Gary Gershwin said, “Study in Blue is a true ‘sleeper,’ a wine that you learn about through word of mouth, or more likely from your local wine guru.”
FARM Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)
$44.95/bottle or $35/bottle on six +
Winery Tasting Notes:
“These 420 cases of the inaugural vintage of FARM Cabernet Sauvignon come from small, sustainably farmed vineyards in the Napa Valley. Each site is selected for its contribution to the blend. Certain sites provide the structure and tannins while others provide the deep cassis and blackberry flavors for which Napa Valley Cabernet is known.”
Jay’s Take: “One of our best cabernet’s in stock right now. This inaugural release is all Napa Valley fruit, and you save over 20% when you purchase a six pack!”
