If you are an avid reader of our eblasts you might remember our play for Mother’s Day with the 2018 JNSQ Rose!  This inaugural release of Grenache Rose from Justin Winery (Paso Robles) came in an unbelievable package topped with a custom handcrafted rose petal stopper made from glass.  Unlike anything we’d seen before, we touted this amazing gift for mom as giving her wine and flowers, but in one…simple…package!

JNSQ was a huge success and we began the hunt for a gift that would incorporate that same idea of a “two-in-one” for good ole dad.  NO…we don’t have any rose-petal shaped Whiskey bottles, but we do have something we think is pretty cool!  A delicious CASK STRENGTH whiskey finished in Rum, Port and DUNN VINEYARDS CABERNET BARRELS.  BOOM!!!  Wine & Whiskey…doesn’t get much better than that!

BARRELL CRAFT SPIRITS, located in Louisville, Kentucky was founded by Joe Beatrice in 2013.  As his website says, instead of building his own distillery, Joe questioned the conventional wisdom and took a different course. He sourced and blended exceptional casks from established producers, bottled whiskeys at cask strength, and sold them as transparently as possible.” The reality was that approach was unique in the United States, but not the world. Scotland’s long-established independent bottlers were a major inspiration, and Joe was captivated by their ability to elevate barrels of whisky into something greater than the sum of their parts. He sensed that American consumers, too, would embrace the chance to explore whiskey in an entirely new way.

We (Carpe Vino) truly embrace this style of whiskey-making because one can incorporate the talents of so many people, while still having creative influence on the final product themselves.  Hence what has led to the growth and success of Barrell Craft Spirits!

BARRELL “DOVETAIL” — SPECIAL RELEASE

DISTILLERY NOTES: “Dovetail is blended to highlight some of our favorite flavors. Woody bourbon; terroir driven Dunn Cabernet; toasted french oak; Late Bottled Vintage Port pipes; black strap molasses casks; all working in tandem to create a buttery and deep whiskey as unique as it is delicious. Dovetail took almost a year to get right, from blending to labeling, all coming together in a seemingly perfect point.”

We have produced limited releases of Dovetail using the same ingredients and process. With each bottling, there are proof variations.

• 10-year-old whiskey distilled in Indiana, finished in Dunn Vineyards Cabernet barrels
• 11-year-old bourbon distilled in Tennessee finished in black strap rum casks and LBV Port Pipes
• Crafted and bottled in Kentucky
• Bottled at cask strength February 2019 bottling is 123.8 proof
