Here’s 44% Off a Chard to Die For
Yesterday’s 20%-off Carpe Vino gift card deal nearly shut down the Internet, but Santa Gary has four more great deals in his bag, starting with a killer chard you’ve never heard of. The line forms here for the 2012 Elizabeth Spencer Mendocino Chardonnay, holiday priced at $19.99 per bottle or just $13.99 each when you purchase six or more. . .a discount of 44%.
Here’s a head’s up: this will be the only white wine offered during Santa Gary’s week of deals, and it’s amazing. . .produced from organically grown grapes, just 50 barrels of this “Proprietor Selected Special Cuvée” were bottled.
Santa Gary gravitates consistently to red wine—as all of the true believers are aware—but every once in a while, a truly wonderful white wine comes down the pike and the old man gets on the bus. The Elizabeth Spencer chard starts with a hint of citrus on the nose, leading to luscious fruit flavors adeptly described in the winery tasting notes below. It is creamy, yet it isn’t burdened with heavy-handed oak. The fruit shines and it lingers persistently. For fourteen bucks a bottle, Santa Gary deems this the “freakin’ steal” of the young holiday season. There is a great back story here about the winemaking team of Elizabeth Pressler (a former “luxury brand” marketing guru) and Spencer Graham (a former wine broker based in Charlottesville, VA, Drew’s hometown). The pair met during a business meeting, connected and ultimately abandoned their careers and formed their own winery in Rutherford. . .which now encompasses three labels. It’s great reading at www.elizabethspencerwines.com.
Winery Tasting Notes: “Pale yellow, clear. Delicate aromas of tree fruits such as green apple and apricot, and a dusting of linden flower. The light floral aromas are well matched in the mouth; expect a fine textured wine with ample pear fruit dominating the center and hint of nectarine and lemon lingering in the finish. This chardonnay is lean, fruit forward, delicious and very food friendly. We enjoy it as an aperitif or serve it chilled with a wide variety of foods from popcorn to fresh grilled fish.”
Alcohol Level: 14.1%
Cases Produced: 1,250
Blend: 100% chardonnay
Winemakers: Spencer Graham, director of winemaking; Sarah Vandendriessche, winemaker
So better jump on the “Buy Now” button before Santa Gary comes to his senses and reneges on this deal. This juice is so good, a case just might fall off the sleigh in Santa Gary’s driveway.
Cheers,
Santa Gary
