We Pair a Prix-Fixe Menu with Racing Legend Scott Pruett’s Wine

We’re throwing a monkey wrench into our prix-fixe formula to kick off the 2015 series by designing a menu around wines from a single winery—Pruett Vineyards—including just released vintages and two that earned 90+ from Wine Spectator magazine.  Please join us January 27 to 31 for “An Evening with Scott Pruett,” a prix-fixe event with wines paired to each of the four courses for $79.95 plus tax and gratuity.  Call 530-823-0320 or got to www.opentable.com to make reservations.

Scott and Judy Pruett are long-time friends of Carpe Vino, and they will be greeting our guests on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.  We’ve been associated with them as they launched and then developed Pruett Vineyard into one of the most promising new wineries not only in the Sierra Foothills, but in all of California.   Scott’s full time gig is racing cars, and his frenetic schedule keeps him on the road—literally—for much of the year, so we’ve formed a close working relationship to help market his wines.

This will be our second winemaker dinner with the Pruetts, and this collaboration is truly championship caliber, from the racing pit to the checkered flag.  Chef Alexander is still wrenching on the menu, but we’ve got the wines dialed in.  For this event, each course will be served with a three-ounce pour, with additional glasses or bottles available for purchase (for dining in or for your cellar):  NR=New Release

–2013 Pruett Vineyard Vin Gris of Syrah (Sierra Foothills) $19/bottle, $7.50/glass, NR
–2012 Pruett Vineyard “Aston Vineyard” Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) $48/bottle, $18/glass
–2012 Pruett Vineyard “CSP” Syrah (Sierra Foothills) $35.95/bottle, $14/glass, NR, 93 Points Wine Spectator
–2012 Pruett Vineyard “Lucky Lauren Red” Red Wine (Sierra Foothills) $28/bottle, $12/glass, NR, 90 Points Wine Spectator

Late last year, Wine Spector rated four Pruett wines over 90 points, including the 2012 Championship Cuvee, 96 points, the highest rating ever awarded to a wine vinted in the Sierra Foothills.  While that wine is sold out, we have one case of the 2012 Taylor’s Reserve, 95 points Wine Spectator, available for sale starting on Thursday evening.  Only one bottle per person/couple, first come, first served; Scott will sign your purchase, if you wish.

Chef Alexander will have the menu ready to post on Thursday, so stay tuned.  We’ll have a course-by-course description in next week’s Window on Old Town.

Please note that this event is five nights instead of the usual six…we’ll be home watching the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 1.
