Pairing Ports with Food? Prager Tasting Proves It!

Second Seating at 6 p.m. Opens for Just 20 Port Fans

One benefit of being a Carpe Vino Wine Club member is getting first crack at everything. For this event, Club members were given 24 hours to sign up for the 30 seats available, and it sold out in that timeframe. Over the weekend, we decided to add a second seating in which we can accommodate 20 more Port lovers in the Wine Mine starting at 6 p.m. If you’d like to join us for this very special event, don’t delay in signing up online because the remaining seats will go quickly!

There’s nothing that irks Peter Prager more than the notion that port wine is a delightful beverage to be consumed exclusively after dinner and paired with chocolate or cigars. His world view is much more expansive. . .like matching port to multiple courses in a meal. . .and to be enjoyed year-round, not just when it is chilly outside. He’s challenged Carpe Vino to help explode long-held, widely observed, pre-conceived notions about port—the basis of his family enterprise in St. Helena, Prager Winery & Port Works.

So, please join us for our next Sunday extravaganza, A Prager Port Pairing: Beyond Chocolate and Cigars, set for April 23. We’ve opened a second seating at 6 p.m. for just 20 people. We’ll be tasting five ports with pairings for $45, plus tax and gratuity. Chef Alexander kicked his creative juices into overdrive to design an inventive pairing menu.

Here’s the line-up of ports and pairings (Sweet Claire is 375ml; all others are 750ml):

Sweet Claire Riesling 2014, $30/bottle & Aria Port 2012, $50/bottle
