These days, as quickly as we announce our Sunday special events, they sell out within hours. . .even before the ink dries on our email blasts.
That’s precisely what happened with our Prager Port Pairing set for April 23. Our initial offering at 4 p.m. for 30 people sold out in barely 24 hours. With winemaker Peter Prager joining us to host the event, we thought it would makes sense to supersize the opportunity: We’re adding a second seating at 6 p.m., this time in the Wine Mine for 20 people.
So, jump on the red “Reserve Now” wax seal button to get in on this second-chance to be blown away by the unexpected joys of pairing ports with food. We’ve already started taking reservations, and we have just 14 seats remaining; same deal, $45 per person, $56.30 all in with tax and tip. A ticket system for pre-payment is being used for this event; see below.
Here are details from our original email. . .
There’s nothing that irks Peter Prager more than the notion that port wine is a delightful beverage to be consumed exclusively after dinner and paired with chocolate or cigars. His world view is much more expansive. . .like matching port to multiple courses in a meal, and to be enjoyed year-round, not just when it is chilly outside. He’s challenged Carpe Vino to help explode long-held, widely observed, pre-conceived notions about port—the basis of his family enterprise in St. Helena, Prager Winery & Port Works.
So, please join us A Prager Port Pairing: Beyond Chocolate and Cigars, set for April 23. We’ll be tasting five ports with pairings for $45, plus tax and gratuity. Chef Alexander kicked his creative juices into overdrive to design an inventive pairing menu.
Here’s the line-up of ports and appetizer pairings (Sweet Claire is 375ml; all others are 750ml):
Sweet Claire Riesling 2014, $30/bottle & Aria Port 2013, $50/bottle
Roasted Nantes Carrots with Cashew Praline, Golden Raisin Chutney and Curry
Petite Sirah Port NV, $34.95/bottle
Caramelized Endive with Smoked Country Ham, St. Agur Blue Cheese and Port Poached Figs
Royal Escort 2012, $72/bottle

All previous Sunday events have sold out very quickly. . .none faster than our Italian tasting that was fully subscribed in two hours after the event was announced. For this event we’re using a “ticket” system to prepay for reservations: $56.30/person, includes event cost, tax and tip inclusive.
Peter Prager predicts a prolific parade of premiere ports for your prodigious pleasure. Promise.
