91 POINTS – Wine Enthusiast!!!

Gruner Veltliner.  It’s Delicious.  It’s Affordable.

It’s Perfect For Thanksgiving.

This white-wine grape grown principally in Austria can also be found in Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia and even the USA.  Roughly five years ago, GV was all the rage as every SOMM in America was adding a producer to their restaurant wine list…almost becoming a cliché.  The rage eventually fizzled, but fact is, the grape is SUPER FOOD-FRIENDLY and truly should be a mainstay for most restaurant lists!  This exotic alternative to Sauvignon Blanc, is crisp and refreshing, with balanced acid and even a kick of spice.  THIS WINE IS NOT SWEET– leans much more to the drier side.  You will generally always find at least one Gruner Veltliner available at Carpe Vino, but we do tend to change it up allowing representation from all different growing regions.

Today’s deal for the 2015 ZOCKER “PARAGON VINEYARD” GRUNER VELTLINER, not only received 91 Points from the Wine Enthusiast, but was made by 2017 WINEMAKER OF THE YEAR, CHRISTIAN ROGUENANT.  Roguenant has been making wines for over 20+ years, including a 15-year stint at famed Champagne Deutz in France.  The man is a legend in France and the Central Coast, which is evident when you try this delicious bottle of wine!

WHY IS IT GOOD FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER?

“If you’re craving a white wine with Thanksgiving, there are many worse choices that you could make than a Gruner Veltliner. It usually embodies a drier style, with an exceptionally high acidity that can cut through the rich creaminess of many traditional Thanksgiving dishes. It can stand up to turkey without much trouble too.”  –bottlexo.com

2015 ZOCKER Gruner Veltliner

(Edna Valley, CA)

$19.95/bottle retail or $15.95/bottle on 6+

 • ALC: 13.5%

 • Winemaker: Christian Roguenant

 • Cases: 4058

“Wine Enthusiast” 91 PTS: “The nose on this bottling is immensely intriguing and unique, with gooseberry, grapefruit skin, wet river stone and the faintest whiff of Serrano chili. It’s as racy as it can be on the sip, as the bright, fresh and grippy texture reveals flavors of underripe white peach, lime and tons of wet stone.”  — Editors’ Choice–
