The “AHA MOMENT.” You know the one we’re talking about. That “MOMENT” when just everything stops, you’re essentially on sensory overload, a slight tingle comes over your body and you find yourself in complete bliss…that’s the “A HA” moment. Obviously, not everyone has the same “AHA MOMENT,” and it won’t be for the same thing. To keep this train running down the right track, we are going to keep this particular “AHA MOMENT” limited to libations…more specifically Bourbon.
After a fairly-long friendship with Maker’s Mark, I decided it was time to part ways and look for something a little bit different. Hey, if Maker’s, or whatever other whiskey/bourbon is your jam, then so be it. For me, it was time to branch out and look for something with a little bit more grit, a little more heat, but still smooth and delicious. I’m not going to lie, the first time I laid eyes on the WILLETT POT STILL BOURBON, I knew I was buying the bottle just on the packaging alone. After 17 years of selling wine and now spirits, I do believe that packaging is extremely important and (in most cases) shows the completeness of a product. Anyway, I purchased a bottle of the Willett, went straight home, got out MY whiskey glass and poured myself a neat pour. PERFECTION!
Remember this was over a decade ago and the craze for whiskey hadn’t gone full tilt just yet. The flavors, full of vanilla, lemon, caramel and citrus were super balanced, yet the finish let you know you had just gone up another level in the diving well. I was happy…really happy and at the time for $40/bottle this was an excellent option for “the next step-up” and you can’t afford the “top-shelf” Bourbon yet. All was good – then the craze hit.
Since that “AHA MOMENT,” I have tried 100’s of different whiskey’s but still (no pun intended), I found myself always going back to the old tried and true…WILLET STILL POT, whenever I could find it! Problem was/is, it’s become harder and harder to find. With the “craze” demand went through the roof and there was no product to be had, you were just, welp, out of luck. You just can’t speed up the process on a recipe that takes years to come to fruition.
