An Evening with Fred Dame & Daou Vineyards
One of our best-selling wines over the past few years has been the DAOU “RESERVE” CABERNET SAUVIGNON from Paso Robles! Literally, we have sold over 200 six-packs (not bad at $50-ish a bottle) of this wine since we first brought it into Carpe Vino back in 2017. On Thursday, March 28th at 6pm, we will be hosting DAOU of Paso Robles, for another “Family Winemaker Series” event. This time we are breaking from our “golden rule” of only hosting events with winemakers and/or family members from a winery. Why you ask?!? Well, how often do you get the chance to welcome the Daou Ambassador and Master Sommelier Fred Dame to Carpe Vino!
Dame, who is one of only seventy-three Americans to have passed the Master Sommelier Examination and was the first to successfully pass all three parts in a single year. Essentially, that’s like hitting a home-run during your first at bat, with the first pitch, in the first game of the season, in Chicago, in front a sold-out Wrigley Field (Chicago Dogs anyone?!? More to come on that). Seriously though, if you have some free time check out exactly what it takes to become a SOMM. Better yet, check out the 2013 documentary called “SOMM” (available on Netflix) where you follow a group of aspiring/hopeful wine professionals preparing/attempting to become one of the next lucky few to be recognized as a Master Sommelier. Mr. Dame has plenty of cameos throughout the documentary and we think you’ll understand how awesome of an opportunity to meet him at Carpe Vino will truly be!
All that aside, this is still an evening of tasting some incredible DAOU WINES, with family-style pairings from Chef Tim Dube & Chef Olivia Poulos. Last night, our dinner with Franck-Lin Dalle of Chateau Campuget was an absolute stunner, a huge success, solidified by an email from Flin (received this morning) saying: “Thank you all for making yesterday evening possible! It was great! Food was awesome!”
“An Evening with Fred Dame & Daou Vineyards” will be one week from today, Thursday, March 28th at 6PM. The night will consist of tasting SIX different WINES being offered (2-3oz pours), one aperitif upon arrival and the remaining five wines expertly paired with four courses of family-style platters.
