2012 Kongsgaard Albarino

$50.00 (retail) Wine Club pricing reflected in receipt

This was oone of the most exciting wines that we received last year that no one knew about.  The reason being was we only could get one case…so consider yourself one of the lucky ones.  There are a lot of different factors that play into this wine that make it so special.

First of all, its Albarino, which is not generally found in California.  Albarino is the primary white grape grown in Spain’s coastal Rias Baixes wine region. It is a lovely, albeit quirky white wine grape that makes highly aromatic white wines with fantastic acidity.

Secondly, this wine is made by John Kongsgaard who is one of the premier cult winemakers out of California right now.  His wines are primarily sold through his mailing list and restaurant wine lists only.  Also, his wines consistently receive 90+ points or higher from the premium wine periodicals.  That said, this wine received 92 pts.

Lastly, this is the first vintage of this wine ever produced!  So, hope you like it because it is all gone!

Wine Advocate Tasting Notes: 92 Points (Robert Parker)

“Kongsgaard has made a 2012 Albarino from the Hudson Vineyard. Aged in neutral wood with no malolactic, this is the finest Albarino I have tasted from California. This second vintage exhibits loads of crushed rock, spring flowers, exotic fruit such as mango, pineapple and mandarin orange as well as a long, crisp, textured finish. This 2012 is a beauty to drink over the next several years.”
