Staff Review:  DREW MOFFAT/JANA KOSMATA – When it comes to the new kids on the block, these two are exactly “new” but most people up in Northern California might not know too much about them.  The Fableist is a collaboration between winemakers Curt Schalchlin and Andrew Jones. Curt, owner and vintner of the heralded winery, Sans Liege, is known for his critically acclaimed Rhone varietal wines. Andrew, winemaker of Field Recordings spends his days planning and planting vineyards and has stood foot in just about every vineyard on the Central Coast. Together, they produce The Fableist, a collaboration that gives special attention to the craft and story behind each wine.

If you are looking for a true California-style Chardonnay for under $20/bottle, then look no further then here.  Rich, ripe flavors overwhelm the palate, yet not giving away to its youth, it finishes with a strong/bold finish.  The influence of 25% new French Oak and 22 months in the barrel give this Dijon clone Chard just enough sophistication to make it feel like a Napa Chard but again for half the price.  Schalchlin and Jones are rock stars and if you like this…definitely check out some of their other wines we carry from Sans Leige, The Fabelist and Field Recordings.  Cheers!
