2014 Shiner 17.1 Cabernet Sauvignon $30.00

Gary’s Tasting Notes:
The first Shiner release for 2017, the 17.1 Cabernet Sauvignon is our latest negociant adventure where we source great juice—without revealing the winemaker or exact vineyard—and bottle under Carpe Vino’s proprietary label.  The idea is to find great wine produced by an established and talented winemaker, then bring it to our customers at a very affordable price.

This effort exhibits all the quality and flavor components you would expect from a cab produced in the Napa Valley.  Great color—a deep ruby—with violets and cherries on the nose.  You get complex flavors of red berries, a hint of vanilla and a nuanced nudge of pepper.  Nice and round on the palate with a smile-inducing finish.

Though it was aged for 27 months in 80% new French oak barrels, the tannins are tamed and tempting with no danger of overt puckering.  Eminently drinkable tonight. . .and after preparing these notes, I know what I’m having with dinner tonight!”
