Freeland Spirits

“Freeland Spirits is one of very few women owned and run distilleries in history.”

Is it to early to start thinking about FATHER’S DAY?   We’ll help you on the math, it’s ONLY 32 DAYS AWAY!  Whether your willing to buy an early gift for dad, or maybe just one (or two, or three) for yourself, this is one Bourbon you might not be familiar with yet.

Freeland Spirits, located in Portland, Oregon is a newly formed distillery owned/operated by three extremely talented women; Jill Kuehler (Founder), Molly Troupe (Master Distiller) and Jesse Brantley (Director of Sales).  As it says on their website bio: “Freeland Spirits celebrates the women of the craft. From the gals who grow the grain, to those who run the still, we’re creating superior spirits that celebrate all the Northwest has to offer.”

The Freeland Trio has an amazing background story and honestly, we can’t summarize it all in one email.  To learn more about the Freeland Trio and how they became what they are today, do yourself a favor and please click this link:https://www.saveur.com/gin-and-whiskey-portland-distillery

In 2017, Freeland Spirits released their GIN which uses a unique blend of traditional heat distillation along with vacuum distillation, allowing them to use fresh, Pacific Northwest ingredients.  This played right into Kuehler’s wheelhouse as she was formerly a director of Zenger Farms, an educational non-profit farm located in East Portland.  Along with the talents of master distiller Troupe, the two developed one of the hottest new gins in the Pacific Northwest.  Like with most Spirits producers, Gin is your go-to (can produce on demand) until your BOURBON or WHISKEY is ready to be barreled.

If you love a rich, yet smooth Bourbon, with a long and delightful finish, you are really going to love the Freeland.  Released in November of 2018, the Freeland Spirits Bourbon was actually conceptualized three years prior when Kuehler partnered with another distillery to get their Bourbon in barrel.  Here is where it gets good and how Freeland uses every bit of the Pac Northwest as they can.  As a final five-month rest, Feeland uses Oregon’s Elk Cove Pinot Noir barrels which add another element of the Pacific Northwest terroir. Blended with a 12yr Bourbon the precision of Master Distiller, Molly Troupe, achieves a balance of texture and harmony of flavors you could easily compare to the larger Bourbon houses in Kentucky.
