When you talk about ICONIC families in Napa, those who built the Napa wine industry to what it is today, you would have to mention Wagner’s on a very short list.  The Wagner family consists of Chuck (the father), Charlie and Joseph (sons) and Jenny (daughter).  Chuck Wagner..(AKA CAYMUS) has built a wine legacy in Napa, but more importantly Chuck has built a family legacy of winemakers, carrying on the family tradition. Each Wagner has specific responsibility for making great wine in Napa, Monterey, Willamette Valley and even Argentina.  Here are some of the Brands the Wagner’s represent in the wine world, Caymus, Quilt, Conundrum, Mer Soleil, Belle Glos, Emmolo, Red Schooner and Copper Cane.

Emmolo Sauvignon Blanc 2020 (Napa, CA) – $19.95/bottle – MEMBERS LOGIN FOR DISCOUNT

Inspired by the idea that less is more, this wine is more minerality-driven than fruit-driven. Not grassy or overly ripe, it features delicate fruit flavors and steely, mineral notes. Starting with the 2019 vintage, our grapes come from Napa Valley and Suisun Valley, a “hidden gem” only 30 minutes from Napa that shares a similar maritime climate. In both regions, we harvest the fruit at just the right moment to achieve both firm acidity and low alcohol.

Belle Glos “Clark and Telephone” Pinot Noir 2018 (Santa Barbara, CA)  – $54.95/bottle – MEMBERS LOGIN FOR DISCOUNT

Winemaker: Joseph Wagner

Bright ruby red with fresh, vibrant aromas of wild blackberry, raspberry jam, and cedar box accented by rich floral notes. This wine is juicy and generous on the palate with sweet cherry, field-ripened strawberry, cranberry, and just-baked gingerbread. Perfectly balanced with bright acidity and a supple mouthfeel. Fine-grained tannins provide an authentic textural distinction and structural depth.

Wine Spectator, 90 Points: “Fruity and rich-tasting, this is filled with concentrated dark plum, boysenberry and cherry compote flavors that are liberally spiced. Peppery hints emerge as well, leading to a finish that lingers with toasty notes. Drink now through 2024.”

“The aroma is crème de cassis, hazelnut, cocoa, blackberry preserves, charred meat, and blackberry pie. Rich and satisfying on the palate with dark chocolate, yogurt, molasses, brown sugar and rhubarb notes.

While the majority of the fruit comes from the floor of the Napa Valley to achieve the richness and elegance desired, we also relied on some grapes grown in the well-drained gravelly soils of the side slopes and at low elevations in the more mountainous areas for a blend with more structure and complexity than we could have achieved had we used fruit grown solely in a single region. Napa Valley AVAs: Oakville, St. Helena, Atlas Peak, Coombsville, Calistoga, and Howell Mountain.”
