“HOLY S@%T THAT’S GOOD!”  Those were the words that came out of my mouth after taking one sip (of our version) of the “Boulevardier Cocktail” last night!  This back patio “R&D” (research and development) sesh may have just turned out our NEW favorite cocktail of the summer.  No seriously, THIS DRINK IS DELICIOUS and today’s HOME BARTENDING KIT is worth the purchase!  Plus, you can reuse all of the ingredients for multiple other types of drinks!

“The ‘Boulevardier Cocktail’ is composed of whiskey, sweet vermouth, and campari. Its creation is ascribed to Erskine Gwynne, an American-born writer who founded a monthly magazine in Paris called Boulevardier, which appeared from 1927 to 1932.

The Boulevardier is similar to a Negroni, sharing two of its three ingredients. It is differentiated by its use of bourbon whiskey or rye whiskey as its principal component instead of gin. Paul Clark, writing for the food blog Serious Eats, says, This isn’t a Negroni. It is, however, the Negroni’s long-lost autumnal cousin.” He continued: A simple substitution? Hardly. The bittersweet interplay between Campari and vermouth remains, but the whiskey changes the storyline. Where the Negroni is crisp and lean, the Boulevardier is rich and intriguing. There’s a small difference in the preparation, but the result is absolutely stunning.”Wikipedia

High West Whiskey “Double Rye” (Utah)

#14 Whisky Advocate Top 20 Whiskies of 2018

A very spicy rye whiskey! The nose has notes of mint, clove, cinnamon, licorice root, pine nuts, and dark chocolate, with a surprising dose of gin botanicals throughout. The flavor has rye spices up front, then menthol, mint, eucalyptus, herbal tea with wildflower honey and all spice. Cinnamon and mint, gradually sweetening through the finish, with a hint of anise..

Dolin Vermouth de Chambery ROUGE / SWEET (France) 750ML or 375MLdolin_rouge.bottle1-9900000000028a3c

Dolin Rouge imparts lovely spicy notes amid its light and fresh profile, with a clean finish to complement and not overwhelm a drink’s other components. More than fifty herbs flavor Dolin Rouge; its profile is firm and balanced, without the excessive sweet or lingering aftertastes found in large commercial products. It makes for an exceptional Manhattan that does not bury the tastes of rye or bourbon, even at classic 1:1 proportions. Refreshes a Negroni, too. Dolin Rouge and a twist pairs well with charcuterie or black olives and works perfectly in tomato or meat cookery.

Aperitivo Cappelletti

The Aperitivo Cappelletti, endearingly known to locals as just “Specialino”, may be the oldest style of the classic red bitter still in production. Unlike its larger commercial rivals, Cappelletti is less sweet and has a wonderful drying finish. Additionally, it still uses natural carmine color for a crimson red and retains a vinous texture from its wine base. It offers a vibrant and flavorful profile, complemented by bitter undertones on a traditional wine base. This yields a Negroni or Spritz that is dry and refreshing in the finish. It is made just outside of Trento in Alto Adige by the Cappelletti family, who also produce a number of other exceptional aperitivi and amari.
